Programme de la réunion
La Société mathématique du Canada (SMC) invite la communauté mathématique à participer à la réunion estivale 2025 du 80e anniversaire de la SMC, qui se tiendra du 6 au 9 juin 2025 à Québec, au Québec. L'événement de quatre jours comprendra des conférences de remise de prix, des conférenciers pléniers, des sessions scientifiques ainsi que des mini-cours le vendredi 6 juin. L'hôtel de conférence, l'Hôtel Alt Québec, est idéalement situé à quelques minutes en voiture de Laval et à proximité d'un centre commercial et de boutiques.

Will AI really change how we teach and develop research-level mathematics?
There is a lot of hype around AI, and closer investigation of many claims (about the impact of AI on mathematics) are not quite so extraordinary as promoted. Nonetheless change is coming, and fast, and it will be difficult to avoid significant new tools that alter how we do mathematics. In this talk we explore what has so far been accomplished, what is in the pipeline (in the foreseeable future), and how these impact what we do, how we perceive our role, and what we value, as mathematicians.

Math + AI = AGI
It comes as no surprise that solving challenging research-level math problems drives progress in mathematics. What is more surprising, though, is that solving such long-standing open problems also contributes to an entirely different field: the development of the next generation AI systems. We live in an exciting time where mathematics and AI can greatly benefit each other, and the goal of the talk is to explain how and why, drawing on specific examples from topology and combinatorial group theory.
